This last week ( to a certain few ) and next week, will be the promotion and release of my EP entitled “Feel the Knife”. It’s exciting for my family, my girlfriend & friends - but for me, more than excitement, it’s a relief.
Maybe that’s common for recording artists. There is so much backstage work that the music can become a chore. You become a manager and forget to be a songwriter for a while. Well thankfully all that is over. My first body of work is ‘out there’. And that’s all I want. I don’t need to sell x amount of copies. Would selling albums be nice? Of course! It’s a wonderful feeling when you know someone appreciates your art. And I hope people do appreciate the “Feel the Knife : EP”. I’m just here to say I feel completely free again and working hard on new material that I am very excited about.
You live and you learn and the process of making my first EP has given me more to draw from in all aspects. Songwriting, voice, production and most importantly the understanding of what is needed at what is not. Simplicity is not to be underestimated. I have a stronger vision than ever before for my next record and if every album I make sharpens my composing, then I’ll welcome the ‘backstage’ work all day long. It’s a small price to pay.
So I am going to close the shutters, turn off the mobile, sharpen the pencil & tune the strings for the weekend….all in hope that something beautiful comes from this. Something beautiful to share with you guys.
